About Me.
I’m Lindsay Hutton — editor, writer, and lifelong word obsessive. I believe every draft has the potential to shine with the right edits.
My professional training includes editing and journalism courses at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Journalism, along with a degree in political science and post-graduate coursework in public policy and business communications from McMaster University. Over the years, I’ve built a career that bridges publishing, communications, and public service — always with words at the centre.
A bit of what I’ve done.
- Edited peer-reviewed health and science journals with Elsevier and MDPI
- Copyedited/factchecked features and blurbs for Chatelaine and other glossies
- Developed and polished nonfiction titles with Peter Lang Publishing, Routledge and DIOPress
- Produced research briefs, reports, and communications for health agencies, including the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion
- Created and rolled out editorial protocols and product materials for international hearing health and tech companies
- Supported communications, program notes, and briefing materials within the Ontario Public Service
- Contributed copyediting and content support to academic publishers, nonprofit organizations, and small presses
- Early work in local media and alt-weeklies, building front-of-book blurbs and sharpening editorial voice
My Approach.
Editing is more than fixing commas — it’s about clarity, rhythm, and impact. I aim to preserve your voice while sharpening structure, flow, and precision, so your words do exactly what you want them to: connect with readers.
Beyond the Desk.
When I’m not editing, you’ll likely find me hiking Hamilton’s trails with my daughter, experimenting with vegetarian recipes, or poring over one of the thirty dictionaries I’ve collected.
Let’s Connect.
If you’re looking for an editor who can move your draft from “almost there” to “publish-ready,” I’d love to hear from you.
A selection of past projects and clients can be found on my Projects page.
